Havana, Apr 16.- The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), stated today that between 1990 and 2014 the Caribbean witnessed 182 major natural disasters, which affected more than 11.5 million people.
Home to some 7,500 species, with a high degree of endemism, Cuba ranks fourth among the islands with the greatest plant diversity in the world, as such conservation efforts are of considerable regional and international importance.
Rome, Apr 5.- Every year pests and diseases reduced from 20 to 40 percent the world crop yields and the threat continues growing, warned FAO today at a forum with experts from 182 countries.

Havana, Cuba, Mar 29.- The network of stations of the Cuban National Seismological Service recorded a perceptible earthquake at 7:03 pm on Monday, March 28, at 19.96 north latitude and 75.90 west longitude, 11 kilometers southwest of the city of Santiago de Cuba, with a depth of 5 km, and a magnitude of 2.7 on the Richter scale.
Havana, Mar 22.- The Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), Irina Bokova, reported today that more than 700 million people globally still remain without access to clean water.
