Caracas, Nov 1. -The National Constituent Assembly (ANC) of Venezuela condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than 50 years on Cuba, local media reported on Thursday.
The plenipotentiary forum ratified its “categorical support” for the Cuban people, “whose human rights are flagrantly and systematically violated” through the implementation of the unilateral sanctions applied by Washington, the state-owned Venezolana de Television reported.
The ANC demanded to the US government and congress that the blockade imposed on Cuba be immediate lifted, in compliance with 26 resolutions adopted by the international community at the United Nations General Assembly.
It also urged other countries' governments to support for the 27th time the resolution condemning the hostile policy implemented by the United States, “contrary to the most elementary principles of international law and the UN Charter.”
The resolution approved by the ANC stressed that “the US anachronistic and inhumane policy of economic aggression against Cuba, along with the promotion of internal subversion, confirms the objective of trying to destroy the economic, political and social system the Cuban people have chosen freely.”
The ANC also recalled that Donald Trump’s administration has tightened the blockade in its economic, commercial and financial dimensions, and there has been a rollback in the normalization of bilateral relations that started during the government of President Barack Obama. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
