Argentine Solidarity Group Slams Worsening of US Blockade on Cuba

Buenos Aires, Apr 26.- The Argentine Movement of Friendship with Cuba (MasCuba) rejected the US government's decision to enable Title III of Helms-Burton Act that worsens the commercial, economic and financial blockade, imposed to Cuba for almost six decades.

That solidarity group said in a statement that Washington 'is alone with just the backing of the Zionist State of Israel in the application of the blockade to Cuba, which has been rejected for 27 consecutive years by the UN General Assembly.'

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced in recent days Washington's decision to allow claims to be filed in US courts about 'confiscated' properties (as Washington calls nationalizations made by the fledging revolutionary government back in the early 1960's).

The implementation of this section would not only affect Cuba, but also individual and companies from third countries with significant investments in sectors such as tourism, mining and energy.

The dignity and independence of the Cuban people cannot be undermined with these interventionist and extraterritorial measures, MasCuba says.

Latin America and the Caribbean will never be the backyard of the United States and Cuba will continue to be an example that illuminates the way forward, a path of independence, solidarity and integration within the framework of self-determination of people,' the communique concludes.
