The US adds another measure to its hostile policy against Cuba

Havana - In keeping with its policy aimed at depriving Cuba of the resources necessary for development, the United States government this Thursday added another measure to its already intensified blockade against the island.

The announcement made by the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, on the prohibition of private charter flights to the Caribbean nation, was described by Havana as of little impact but reprehensible for playing with the concerns and needs of family contacts of Cubans from both sides of the Straits of Florida.

According to the director general for the United States of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, this sanction seeks to satisfy the electoral political machinery of South Florida and confirms the contempt of imperialism towards Cubans and Americans of Cuban origin.

The measure, communicated through Twitter in the midst of global efforts to contain the expansion of the Covid-19 pandemic, will take effect on October 13, and is added to others that reinforce the US government's siege.

In January, the administration of President Donald Trump eliminated all public charter flights to the Caribbean nation, except those that run to the José Martí International Airport in this capital.

Previously, the White House banned all commercial flights from the United States to Cuba, except those that arrive in Havana, thus cutting off direct air communication from that country with another city on the island.

In addition, he revoked the authorizations that allowed North American companies to rent planes from Cuban state airlines.

The arsenal of economic, commercial and financial blockade measures of the United States against Cuba is nurtured and applied with particular harshness by the administration of Donald Trump.
