The US blockade against Cuba described as murder in France

By Waldo Mendiluza

Paris, Aug 26 - The leader of the French Communist Party (PCF) Laurent Péréa today described the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba as murderous and unacceptable and demanded its immediate lifting.

We cannot accept that this aggression and interference continue, that is why the French communists fight together with the solidarity associations so that the blockade ends, said in an interview with Prensa Latina the member of the National Bureau of the organization, in which it is in charge of relations with Latin America.

According to Péréa, in the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the siege applied by Washington for 60 years to try to surrender to the island awakens even more repudiation.

"The United States wants to bring the Cuban people to their knees, but the opposite is happening, they are standing ready to win," stressed the mayor of Saint-Capraise-de-Lalinde, a commune located in the south-western department of Dordogne.

The politician considered it a priority to strengthen the unity of those in France, Europe and the world who oppose an intensified blockade by the administration of President Donald Trump with measures such as the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, aimed at depriving the country of the foreign investments necessary for its development.

We must expand our struggle and French, European and international solidarity, because there are still governments in Europe and elsewhere that do not face the interference of Trump and US imperialism, the PCF leader warned.

Péréa insisted on the importance of messages of support and solidarity reaching Cubans, so that they always know that they are not alone and transmit energy to them in their struggle.

The battle against the blockade of Cuba is also a fight against the imperialist forces and their neoliberal ideological and media crusade for Europe and the planet, he told Prensa Latina.

In that sense, he recalled the hostility towards peoples such as Venezuela, Palestine and Iran, and the coups d'état and destabilizing maneuvers to destroy progressive sectors in Latin America, in particular Bolivia, Brazil and Ecuador. (Prensa Latina)
