Cuba and Russia will deepen economic, commercial and scientific-technical cooperation

Havana, June 7- Cuba and Russia today ratified the common will to deepen economic, commercial and scientific-technical cooperation, during a meeting between the Prime Minister of the island, Manuel Marrero, and the Vice President of the Government of the Eurasian nation, Dmitry Chernyshenko.

The exchange took place in the context of an official visit of the Cuban Premier to Russia, begun on Tuesday, June 6, which gives continuity to the talks held by the President of the island, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and his counterpart Vladimir Putin in November 2022, the Government of Cuba highlights on Twitter.

Marrero said that this official visit, the first to Russia as head of government, is taking place in a context of strengthening bilateral relations in the economic, political and commercial spheres.

"It is about continuing to strengthen ties as two fraternal countries and nothing will stop us in that purpose," said the Cuban Prime Minister.

For his part, Chernyshenko assured that in the bilateral and multilateral framework his country will not abandon its friends.

As reported by the Government of Cuba, during the dialogue, Marrero expressed satisfaction with the results of the twentieth session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic-Commercial and Scientific-Technical Collaboration, which met in Havana last May.

The Cuban premier, as part of the official visit to Russia, which will last until July 17, heads the high-level Caribbean delegation that will participate, for the first time in person, in the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council (on 8 and 9 June in the city of Sochi).

Recently, speaking by videoconference at the meeting of the Eurasian Supreme Economic Council, Díaz-Canel reaffirmed that the expansion of ties with the States of the Eurasian Economic Union is a priority for Cuba (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia).

Cuba is the only country in Latin America that is an observer State of that economic entity, a status granted to it in December 2020.

This status provides the Caribbean nation with better conditions for the registration and positioning of biotechnological and pharmaceutical products, as well as these services in markets of high purchasing power, such as the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan, highlighted the island’s government.
