Iran attacks Israel in response to assassinations of Nasrallah and Haniyeh

Tel Aviv, Oct 2.- Iran attacked Israel today with more than 100 ballistic missiles in its promised response to this country for the assassinations of the top figures of Hezbollah and Hamas, in the midst of growing tension in the Middle East.

The Ynet news portal indicated that there were 102 missiles, although Channel 12 raised the figure to about 400.

According to the first source, Tehran's targets included Israel’s airports of Hatzeri and Nabatin, although falls were also reported in Tel Aviv and the Sharon and Negev areas.

There will be a harsh response from us, an Israel’s official told that news outlet in the first reaction to the operation.

For its part, in a statement, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps of Iran (IRGC) announced that the raid is retaliation for the assassination in Tehran of the top figure of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Ismail Haniyeh, and the leader of the Lebanese group Hizbullah, Hassan Nasrallah, a few days ago in Beirut.

In that last attack, Brigadier Abbas Nilforushan, vice commander of the Al Quds force, one of the main units of the IRGC, also lost his life.

“If the Zionist regime responds, it will face violent attacks,” the armed body warned.

National television stations showed images of the rockets and the Israeli anti-missile batteries trying to stop them.

Hours ago, national media announced the Iranian attack, supposedly directed against three air bases and one intelligence base in retaliation for this country's actions.

In recent days, the Israeli Army killed numerous leaders of the Shiite organization, including Nasrallah.

The extent of the damage and the exact number of missiles fired by Iran are currently unknown, although at least three injuries were reported in the Tel Aviv area.

Last April, the Persian nation launched more than 300 drones and missiles against Israel, after the attack on the Tehran consulate in Damascus, which caused the death of several generals. (Text and Photo: PL)
