President Xi Jinping instructs new support for Cuba in wake of hurricanes and earthquakes

Havana, Nov 16. - President Xi Jinping pays close attention to Chinese-Cuban relations and has been very concerned about earthquakes, hurricanes and the situation that the Cuban people are going through; in the first half of this year, he gave instructions for a group of measures to support Cuba with assistance, and now, with these events, he approved deploying a second round of measures.

The above was reported by comrade Liu Junfeng, vice president of the National Agency for International Development Cooperation of China (CIDCA, by its acronym in Spanish), in a meeting on Friday afternoon with the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

The senior official of the brother country conveyed to the Cuban leader "a cordial greeting and the best wishes" from the President of the People's Republic of China and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China.

"President Xi Jinping has a very complex internal and external agenda, but he closely follows Chinese-Cuban cooperation; and in Kazan —at the recent BRICS summit— he spoke with Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla," said Liu Junfeng in a review of bilateral ties and the work of the Chinese leader, who is now in Peru to attend the APEC Summit, he recalled.

The Vice President of CIDCA thanked Díaz-Canel for receiving him at this time, when —he said— "you multiply the efforts in recovery." It is an honor for me to meet you, he stressed.

The Head of State sent "warm greetings" to President Xi Jinping and thanked the important emergency aid that CIDCA has been working on and arriving in Cuba in the midst of the extremely complex situation that the country is experiencing.

Díaz-Canel also sent greetings to Luo Zhaohui, president of the National Agency for International Development Cooperation of China, whom he received last April.

When welcoming Liu Junfeng at the Palace of the Revolution, the Head of State stressed that his visit expresses, once again, all the sensitivity and commitment of President Xi Jinping to the situation that Cuba is going through.

He also ratified, he stressed, the excellent relations between the two countries in all areas, political, economic, commercial, cultural. Every week, he commented, we have a dynamic of visits, projects, exchanges, which demonstrates, he reiterated, the high level of our relations.

His visit to Cuba, Díaz-Canel added, consolidates the historical ties and consensus that we have reached with comrade Xi Jinping. So it is also a visit of continuity.

The Cuban President expressed his admiration for the work of the National Agency for International Development Cooperation of China in Cuba, thus, he reiterated, in April we were receiving the president of the Agency, and now we are receiving you.

CIDCA and Cuba —he said— are working very seriously, very concrete solutions are being given in relatively short periods of time and the experts in the food and energy areas who previously accompanied comrade Luo Zhaohui and now you, have demonstrated a high professional level and great seriousness in the diagnoses they have made.

The president reiterated his gratitude for the collaboration of the Chinese Cooperation Agency and underlined the great expectations they have for the results that will be obtained.

The Vice President of the National Agency for International Cooperation for the Development of China was accompanied in the exchange with Díaz-Canel, by Hua Xin, ambassador of the brother country on the Island; Cai Fang, deputy director general of CIDCA Regional Directorate II; and Zhang Yueqiang, deputy director general of the Center for International Economic and Technological Exchange of the China’s Ministry of Commerce.
