Cuba and Vietnam sign contract for VA-MENGOC-BC vaccine

Havana, Feb 5. – Cuba's Finlay Institute of Vaccines (IFV, for its acronym in Spanish) and the Vietnamese vaccine and biological products company Vabiotech signed a technology transfer contract on Wednesday in the Vietnamese capital for the final stages of production of the VA-MENGOC-BC vaccine, reported the IFV from its social media.

As also reported by IFV Director, Dr. Yury Valdés Balbín, on his Facebook account, this agreement constitutes the most important and complex technical challenge jointly undertaken and reflects the transformative power of science when built on solidarity among nations.

Valdés Balbín highlighted that the shared scientific-technological capabilities and the mutual trust forged over more than two decades of cooperation made this milestone possible, demonstrating the existence of an alternative path in the face of economic blockades and external pressures.

For Cuba, the achievement reaffirms science as an effective shield against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, and projects a national innovation capable of establishing alliances based on respect and collaboration.

In Vietnam's case, the agreement strengthens its self-sufficiency in public health, boosts the development of the national biotechnology industry, generates high-skilled employment, and promotes prosperity aligned with its vision of independent and sovereign development.

The signing consolidates more than twenty years of fraternal cooperation between Cuba and Vietnam in the scientific field and opens new perspectives for the joint production of vaccines aimed at protecting the health of their peoples. (Text and photo: ACN)
