Bolivia stresses at UN importance of voting against blockade

United Nations, Oct 3. -Bolivia's permanent representative to the UN, Sacha Llorenti, expressed on Wednesday that for his country the vote in the General Assembly on the resolution calling for an end to the blockade against Cuba is of primary importance.

Although this is not an issue on the agenda of the Security Council, the body presided by Bolivia this month, the day of the vote on October 31st there are no appointments in this instance because we believe that all attention should be focused on that vote, he said to a question by Prensa Latina.

Such a session in the General Assembly is a sign of respect for multilateralism and a condemnation to unilateral sanctions, such as that imposed by the United States on Cuba through the economic, commercial and financial blockade, the ambassador added.

It is also an opportunity to recognize the courage and bravery of the Cuban people, and there is no need to say what Bolivia's position will be in this important vote, stressed Llorenti.

The president of the 73rd session of the General Assembly, María Fernanda Espinosa, also spoke on Monday about how many of the member states of the organization pronounced themselves against the blockade against Cuba during the general debate, held from September 25th to October 1st.
