Cubans raise their voices against US blockade

Pinar del Río, Oct 20. -Residents of the People's Council of Free Cuba, in this western city, have raised their voices against the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on this island for almost six decades.

In front of a gigantic national flag, the locals defined as inhumane the policy aimed at destroying the Revolution, which led by Fidel Castro triumphed on January 1st, 1959.

Nothing will stop our march, said young medicine student Jose Alejandro Jimenez, who mentioned the effects of the hostile policy on training future doctors on the island.

On her side, Dr. Auroly Otaño denounced that the health sector is deprived of reagents, medicines and diagnostic means to provide effective services. We can refer to the low coverage of expendable material and equipment considered vital to save lives.

Nevertheless, she explained that every year the incidence of patients diagnosed with cervical cancer is reduced through systematic care for women less than 60 years of age and they give quality of life to patients with lung cancer with the use of the Cuban Cimavax vaccine.

Other speakers went over statistics showing how the blockade affects other sectors of society. For almost 60 years, accumulative damages amount to 933,678 billion dollars, according to a report released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On October 31st, Cuba will present for the twenty-seventh consecutive time its resolution demanding the lifting of the blockade before the United Nations General Assembly, recalled Cuban parliamentarian Arelys Santana, adding that it will be a new victory for truth and justice. (Taken from PL)
