Diaz-Canel Says, “US Blockade against Cuba is a Failure”

Havana, May 23.- President Miguel Diaz-Canel assured that the US commercial, economic and financial blockade against Cuba is a failure in attempting to overthrow the Cuban Revolution.

The President tweeted that the US government has applied the 'most complex, sophisticated and comprehensive system of unilateral coercive measures ever seen' against Cuba for 60 years.

It did not work before and much less will work now. We will always defend our sovereignty and independence, he stressed.

Yesterday, Cuba announced that it will once again present to the UN General Assembly the draft resolution calling for the end of such siege to the island.

That text has been a resolution for 26 years with a high vote of the international community, and with just the US's and Israel's vote against.

During the 18th Political Council of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our America-Treaty of Commerce of the Peoples (ALBA-TCP), which met yesterday, this integrating bloc demanded the end of the blockade against Cuba and the Helms- Burton Act, US legislation that codifies all the coercive measures against Cuba.
