Lisbon, Apr 25 - The General Confederation of Portuguese National Union Workers (CGTP-IN) condemned today the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba almost six decades ago.
According to a press release from the island's embassy in this European country, the main working-class center in Portugal spoke in these terms in a statement on the international situation, marked by the scourge of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
In its resolution, the CGTP-IN rejected the unilateral sanctions of the US government, and contrasted that attitude with the global cooperation deployed by the Caribbean nation to face Covid-19, a disease caused by the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus.
In the opinion of the largest Portuguese union, the evolution of the situation shows that the fight against the virus "is linked to the struggle of workers and peoples to defend their rights."
Claims that, although restricted by the necessary measures to protect health and life, must continue to deepen in the future with the strengthening of internationalist solidarity, he concludes. (PL)
