Bogota, 7 Jun.- The sprinter Pedro Urgellés was consecrated today two-time champion of the V Parapanamerican Youth Games, leading with remarkable authority in the 200 meters flat category T12.
The matancero passed the goal with time of 23.75 seconds, well separated from the Venezuelan García Montalve (25.41) and the Dominican Díaz Rodríguez (27.14 s).
Thus he closed his remarkable work at the athletics stadium of the El Salitre Sports Unit, where on Monday he won the crown in the hectare with time of 11.55 seconds.
"I felt great before and after the race. It was not easy, although I won widely, because the rivals are not bad runners. In the corner I had to squeeze to get to the straight of the 100 meters ahead. The time achieved is similar to what was expected," said the young man in the interview area.
"Since we started the work the idea was this: to come to Colombia to win gold in the 100 and 200 meters," he added before sending a greeting to the people of Cuba.
The afternoon had one more prize for the Island, as the guantanamero Geyser Matos Isalgué took over the silver medal in the 200 meters of the class T35.
Champion a day earlier in the 400 metres, Geyser again faced a unified test (along with athletes from other categories) and took "silver passage" to the podium with time of 28.37 seconds.
The champion of the event was the Ecuadorian Antonio Rojas Campos (27.72), the bronze medal corresponded to the Venezuelan Rivero Chourio (28.86) and the fourth place to the Colombian Acosta Méndez (29.99). (Text and photo: JIT)
