Nueva Gerona, April 27.- The project of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), conceived to improve the supply of electrical energy in Isla de la Juventud, was officially transferred to Cuba, in an act chaired by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz.
Alfredo López Valdés, general director of the Electrical Union, thanked the Japanese government and its international agency for the donation, consisting of the installation of batteries with significant storage capacity, essential to maintain energy balance, especially with integration into the renewable energy system.
The experience of this million-dollar investment will be very useful for the construction of other similar works in the national electrical system, in accordance with the transformation of the energy matrix in Cuba. The materialization of the project constitutes an example of the continuous strengthening and excellent relations between both countries, said López Valdés.
Ashida Tatsuya, resident representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency in Cuba, said that the inaugurated work is the result of the joint work of specialists from several Japanese companies and Cuban companies, thanks to which the penetration of renewable energy sources will be increased by 15 MW. in Isla de la Juventud.
Through this project, the Japanese government cooperates with its Cuban counterpart in the effort to stabilize the energy supply, especially through the use of photovoltaic panels, for which it is expected that the donated equipment will be used to the maximum. emphasized Hirata Kenji, ambassador of that Asian country in Havana.

On behalf of Cuba and Isla de la Juventud, Ernesto Licea Mojena, president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, thanked the Japanese people for the modern technology donated, thanks to which it is planned to incorporate an additional 15 MW into the system, reaching approximately 20 percent energy production with these sources.
