First Women's Club Soccer World Cup to be played in 2026

Bangkok, May 15.- The first women's club World Cup will be played in 2026 in a still unknown venue, the Council of the International Football Federation (FIFA) decided here today during its 74th Congress.

According to the announcement of the planetary entity, the competition “should bring together 16 teams” between January and February of that year, and would have a four-year periodicity.

This new women's competition will be comparable to its men's pair, which was expanded to 32 teams and whose first edition is scheduled for June 15 to July 13, 2025 in the United States.

To facilitate the continued development of women's clubs around the world and in response to the requests of the confederations, it was also proposed that another competition be organized.

Therefore, starting in 2027 in the years without the Club World Cup, another competition will be held for women's teams, with a different format, the institution added. (Text and photo: PL)
