Beijing, Jan 7.- China and Cuba today reaffirm the special friendship that unites both countries regarding this year's celebration of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
For this purpose, the Cuban ambassador to China, Alberto Blanco, held a meeting with Zhang Run, general director of the Department of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Foreign Ministry of the Asian giant.

Although diplomatic relations will be 65 years old, historical ties date back to the 19th century when the first Chinese citizens arrived in the Antillean country.
On September 2, 1960, in front of more than a million Cubans, the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, urged to break relations with the government of Taiwan to establish diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China of Mao Zedong.
On September 28 of that year, Cuba became the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to establish these links with the new China, which paved the way for relations between the Asian giant and the rest of the nations in the region. .
In 2024, bilateral exchanges became more dynamic and both countries reinforced their traditional cooperation and friendship with multiple visits and initiatives.
On several occasions, Beijing reiterated its support for the island in the fight against the US blockade and demanded its withdrawal from the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism drawn up by Washington.
China recently congratulated Cuba on the 66th anniversary of the revolutionary triumph and highlighted the historical importance of this event that strongly inspired oppressed peoples in their struggle for liberation.
