More than 90 dead in Gaza due to Israeli attack during truce

Ramallah, Feb 12 - More than 90 Palestinians have been killed and 822 others injured by Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip since the start of the truce on January 19, a medical source said today.

The director general of the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, Munir al-Barash, said that two other citizens lost their lives due to the explosion of bombs buried in the rubble and 24 as a result of injuries received during the aggression.

The official detailed that since the beginning of the ceasefire, rescue teams have recovered 641 bodies, including 197 that have not yet been identified.

The authorities of the territory estimated more than 48 thousand dead since the beginning of the conflict, in October 2023, while the number of injured exceeds 111 thousand.

The six-week truce began on January 19, during which a total of 16 Israelis and five Thais were released by the militias in exchange for 583 Palestinians, many of whom were serving life sentences.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday threatened to restart the war in the Strip if the Islamic Resistance Movement does not release all prisoners by Saturday at noon, which violates the agreements reached.

“If Hamas does not return the kidnapped alive before the Sabbath (as Jews call the seventh day of the week), we will fight again,” Netanyahu said in a video at the end of a security cabinet meeting to address the issue of the truce and progress towards a second phase.

The right-wing politician announced that he ordered the Armed Forces to concentrate troops in and around the coastal enclave as soon as possible.

Several Israeli media outlets pointed out that the hardening of the Government's positions is related to the support provided by US President Donald Trump during Netanyahu's recent visit to Washington.

Trump not only called for the exclusion of Palestinians from the coastal enclave, but also threatened to unleash hell in Gaza if the Palestinian militia did not release all Israeli prisoners on Saturday, which was not foreseen for in the truce agreements. (Text and photo: PL)
