Venezuela confirms its vocation for peace and readiness to defend itself

Paris, 15 Sep. - Venezuelan political representatives today underlined the pacifist projection of the Bolivarian Revolution and at the same time their willingness to defend this project with weapons in case of an American aggression.

Prensa Latina spoke with deputy Roy Daza from the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and Henry Parra, the secretary general of the Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV), who along with the Chargé d’Affaires in France, Martha Bolívar, participated in the 90th edition of the political-cultural festival La Fête de l’Humanité.

At this forum, which attracts hundreds of thousands of people each year, the delegation from the South American country reiterated the commitment to peace and the decision to preserve its sovereignty and self-determination.

According to Daza, Venezuela is experiencing perhaps the most dangerous situation in 200 years of republican existence, given Washington's deployment of warships, including a nuclear submarine, near its coasts.

Never before have we had 1,200 missiles pointed at us, nor have we dealt with so many disinformation and manipulation campaigns, he said, alluding to the United States' crusade to link Caracas and its leaders, including President Nicolás Maduro, with drug trafficking.

As he stated at l’Humanité, the socialist deputy asserted that the argument of the war on drugs is a hoax.

The United States is after our oil, 350 billion barrels that constitute the largest proven hydrocarbon reserves on the planet, for our gold, bauxite, our biodiversity, and water, he specified.

In Daza's opinion, Washington's intention is also to erase Venezuelan democracy.

Regarding the internal situation, he stated that the recent PSUV congress decided that despite the threats, the country continues its course, with a process of transformation aimed at resolving the people's problems and strengthening the communes as a means of self-government.

We also insist on preparing for defense, and in the event of a military attack, we would declare a Republic in Arms, as the Liberator Simón Bolívar did, he emphasized.

For his part, the PCV secretary general considered La Fête de l’Humanité an ideal space to publicize the Venezuelan reality, which, he denounced, is distorted daily.

We came seeking international solidarity and to reaffirm that we want peace, but that we are determined to defend our Bolivarian Revolution, he noted.

Parra emphasized that more than eight million people have responded to the call to prepare to take up arms if necessary.

The United States is repeating a pattern we've seen elsewhere in the world: inventing pretexts to justify its intervention, and in this case, it's drug trafficking, he warned.

The communist leader recalled that for more than a decade, Venezuela has faced a US blockade and sanctions.

Since they fail time and again, they now seem to be resorting to a military solution to destroy the Bolivarian Revolution, which they will not achieve, he stated. (Text and photo: PL)
