Unveiling of a commemorative postage stamp for anniversary of the Federation of Cuban Women


Havana, August 20 - Cuban Vice Prime Minister Inés María Chapman presided over the unveiling of a commemorative postage stamp in Havana to mark the 65th anniversary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC).

The event was also attended by Teresa Amarelle, Secretary General of the FMC; Alpidio Alonso, Minister of Culture; Yisell Obregón, Deputy Director of the Economic Department of the Business Group Correos de Cuba; and Luigi Dinza Hidalgo, representative of philately at Correos de Cuba.

Prior to the ceremony at the organization’s headquarters in Havana, representatives of the women’s organization highlighted the FMC’s values for Cuban society over the past six decades, emphasizing its role as a bridge between members and their homes, communities, and workplaces.

“We reaffirm the importance of having a women’s organization; the FMC has been and continues to be a transformative force for equality, a beacon of struggle and empowerment for generations of Cuban women,” stated the communiqué read during the event.

Established on August 23, 1960, the FMC was founded by Cuba’s Heroine Vilma Espín Guillois as a social organization with the primary objective of defending women’s rights and ensuring their participation on equal terms with men in all spheres of the country’s economic, political, and social life.
