From the Potrero of Jimaguayú, historic site where on May 11, 1873 the Major General Ignacio Agramonte rose to immortality, the people of Camagüey commemorated the event during the national act for the 150th anniversary of the fall in combat of whoever organized the most disciplined and combative cavalry of the Liberatarian Army.

In that sacred site of the Homeland, the member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and its first secretary in the province Federico Hernández Hernández, recalled the example, virtues and unimpeachable military qualities that distinguished the "Diamond with the soul of a kiss", according to José Martí, as essential pillars to fight new battles today.

In that sense he stressed that difficult and complex moments such as those faced by El Bayardo impact on the daily life of the Agramontinians, and yet, inspired by their heroic deeds, the commitment to the Revolution multiplies, unity, and glorious pages are written with absolute conviction in victory.

Today more than ever, said Hernández Hernández, we turn to the illustrious patriot with the certainty that, to achieve more and better results in socio-economic tasks, we count on the Honor of Cubans.

The words of the party leader transcended in the symbolic place declared National Monument, where a mambi camp with natural rustic elements was recreated, in addition to a field hospital, a training center for combat and bohios that reflected typical actions of the Ten Years' War.

In statements to the press, the member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the PCC and head of the Agriculture-Food Department, Félix Duarte Ortega said that in the remembrance the commitment of the new generations was appreciated, which exalted the figure of the man born on December 23, 1841, and thus make clear the continuity of socialism.

At the same time, he conveyed a message of admiration and respect for all that the people of this province do, immersed in a battle for economic recovery amid adversities experienced by the United States government.

The emotional moment of the homage to the eponymous hero of Camagüey was the reading of some fragments of the letters of Amalia Simoni and Ignacio, epistolary that consolidated through unconditional love, fidelity and respect for the duty to fight for the independence of the Island.

For the meritorious work in the conservation and dissemination of the life and military trajectory of who was considered by Máximo Gómez as El Sucre cubano, the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Ignacio Agramonte, the Office of the Historian of the City, the Provincial Museums, Birthplace and San Juan de Dios, as well as the historic site Potrero de Jimaguayú, deserved recognition on the day.

During the memorable evocation, one hundred Agramontinians joined the ranks of the Union of Young Communists and another 50 to the Communist Party of Cuba, responsibility they will assume in key sectors such as Education, Health and Defense of the country.

The tribute showed the best of the territory’s cultural talent with first-rate groups such as the Ballet de Camagüey, the Provincial Concert Band, the Professional Choir, Teatro D Luz and the Guiñol, as well as other valuable exponents of art in Camagüey.

Embodied in a group of peasants and residents of the municipality of Vertientes, the cavalry of Ignacio Agramonte rode 150 years later in the Potrero de Jimaguayú, with his boss in the first line of combat to chart the way to new battles for a future of victories.
