Beijing, 15 Jul. - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China today reiterated in this capital its rejection of the economic and commercial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba.
China firmly opposes the unilateral US sanctions against Cuba and its interference in the Caribbean country's internal affairs under the pretext of alleged human rights, stated Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian.
Lin made the statements at a regular press conference in response to a question about the sanctions imposed by Washington on senior Cuban officials.
China urges the United States to immediately lift its blockade and sanctions against Cuba, the spokesperson added.
Lin noted that the United States has imposed a comprehensive blockade and illegal sanctions on Cuba for more than 60 years, inflicting profound suffering on the Cuban people.
The sanctions should be lifted immediately rather than intensified. China firmly supports Cuba in adopting a development path that suits its national conditions and safeguarding its sovereignty and dignity, the official asserted.
If the US side really cares about human rights, it should reflect on its own record of human rights violations at the Guantánamo naval base in Cuba and around the world over the years, said Lin. (Text and photo: PL)
