Damascus, July 15 – Israeli army warplanes launched three raids today against Syrian government forces in the province of Sweida, about 120 kilometers south of this capital.
According to the official news agency SANA, two Zionist bombings occurred near the town of Al-Mazraa and a third near Kanaker, causing material losses.
The Israeli army had threatened to bomb Syrian transitional government forces if they advance toward the city of Sweida, the capital of the province of the same name, claiming to want to protect the Druze community, a minority that makes up two percent of Syria's population.
However, columns of Damascus forces managed to enter the city of Sweida today, where they imposed a curfew and called on the population to stay home and the irregulars to lay down their weapons.
In its commentary on the Sweida incidents, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that all military and security matters must remain under the exclusive authority of the Syrian State, in accordance with the Constitution and the law.
It emphasized that this guarantees the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the State and prevents any area from becoming a site of chaos or foreign influence.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged all countries and organizations to respect the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and refrain from supporting any separatist movement. (Text and photo: PL)
