Organized crime seeks to attract migrants returned by the United States to Mexico

Mexico City, Jul 28.- Organized crime seeks to recruit migrants returned by the United States to Mexico, alerted the director of the National Institute of Migration, Francisco Garduño.

According to the newspaper Milenio, the official made such an alert on a tour of Chiapas, the most conflictive state in Mexico in terms of migration because the people who arrive from Guatemala in their attempt to reach the United States by land are concentrated there, and those who country returns to Mexico for lack of documentation.

The desperate situation of not achieving their objectives makes them vulnerable to the sabotage work of organized crime that is constantly seeking to increase its capacity for mobilization and expansion with new elements.

Garduño affirmed that migrants are being recruited by criminal groups during their passage through Mexico, which represents a great concern for the government, and commented that thousands of migrants arrive daily seeking to move safely without putting their integrity or lives at risk, and they are easy prey for the mob.

For this purpose, he pointed out, an operation is carried out which consists of first guaranteeing a welcome, security, information, immediate customs procedures, to those who bring trucks, real estate, and pets.

He clarified that the instruction to stop people in transit who seek to cross to the northern border has not been given and the Immigration agents do not carry weapons or anything that could generate fear in those foreigners.

On the other hand, Mexico thanked President Joe Biden for his opposition to the fence of buoys and barbed wire that Texas Governor Greg Abbott is building in the Rio Grande.

It highlights the statements of the White House spokeswoman, Karine Jean-Pierre, who regretted the decision of the Texas government and described the buoy barrier as an illegal measure that damages relations with Mexico.

The Biden administration sued the state of Texas this week to remove a barrier of buoys and barbed wire that could damage diplomatic relations with its main trading partner.

Mexico has already sent two diplomatic notes to the neighboring country to act against the illegality committed by Abbott who violates an international water treaty, in addition to putting migrants seeking to cross the Rio Grande at risk.

These floating buoys are made of a mesh reinforced with spikes and the barrier measures about 305 meters. According to the Foreign Ministry, 230 meters of the barrier are on the Mexican side, a situation that would violate national sovereignty and for which they sent diplomatic notes to eliminate this measure.
