France demands ceasefire and Palestinian-Israeli peace

Paris, Oct 27.- Social, political and union organizations demanded in a meeting convened by the French League of Human Rights (LDH) a ceasefire and a two-state solution that brings peace to Palestinians and Israelis.

Participants expressed concern about the current escalation, following the Hamas attacks of October 7 and the bombings and total blockade imposed by Israel in retaliation to the Gaza Strip, where there is a humanitarian crisis.

Speaking at the forum in the Olympe de Gouges room in this capital, the president of the LDH, Patrick Baudouin, regretted the failure to comply with UN resolutions aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East and the need for both peoples live in peace with recognized borders.

Likewise, he called for the application of International Humanitarian Law in Gaza, which includes respect for the civilian population, the release of the hostages held by Hamas, the immediate cessation of hostilities and the end of the bombings against the Strip and of the forced displacements of its population.

Likewise, he advocated for the establishment of a humanitarian corridor in the Palestinian enclave, one of the most densely populated on the planet, and for the cessation of the Israeli blockade.

Baudouin considered it urgent to overcome the infernal cycle in progress, in the name of hope and the future.

At the meeting, the experienced Palestinian diplomat Leila Shahid stressed the responsibility of the international community in seeking an end to the suffering of both peoples and criticized the press's handling of the conflict.

In that sense, he criticized the media for using two criteria of indignation, two levels of guilt or denunciation.

The LDH called tonight's forum as a mobilization for peace, condemnation of the crimes of Hamas and Israel, and in favor of efforts for a two-state political solution. (Text and photo: PL)
