China supports Cuban sovereignty and demands an end to the US blockade

Beijing, Oct 30.- China today stressed its support for Cuba's sovereignty, demanded the end of the United States blockade and urged Washington to "listen carefully to the just voice of the international community."

In response to a question from Prensa Latina, spokesperson Wang Wenbin of the Foreign Ministry recalled that since 1992, the United Nations General Assembly has approved by an overwhelming majority and 30 consecutive times resolutions to put an end to this scourge.

“This indicates that the vast majority of countries in the world express their serious concern and determination regarding the indiscriminate use of unilateral sanctions by the United States, which seriously threatens the basic human rights of the Cuban people,” he emphasized.

In addition, he asked the United States to immediately end the economic, commercial and financial restrictions and blockade against the Caribbean nation.

"China will continue to firmly support the Cuban people in their opposition to foreign interference and blockades, safeguarding sovereignty and national dignity," he stressed.

Recently, the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, reported today that the 1st. and on November 2, the United Nations General Assembly will consider the draft resolution on the need to end this unilateral policy.

Rodríguez denounced that since 2019 Washington has escalated these coercive measures to an extreme dimension that deprives Cuba of the essential income to acquire food, fuel, raw materials and equipment, and causes shortages, difficulties and anxiety for families.

He explained that the damages caused by the measure represent an impact of more than 405 million dollars per month, which implies one million dollars every two hours.

In the context of this policy, the US Government applied, between January 2021 and February 2023, 909 discriminatory actions to cancel contracts and services by foreign banks.

During the most critical moment of the Covid-19 pandemic on the island, Washington intensified the economic, commercial and financial blockade, an action that the highest representative of Cuban diplomacy described as a cruel and genocidal act. (Text and photo: PL)
