Paris, Nov 14.- The president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González, shared with supportive French people and elected authorities the impact on the island of the US blockade, a policy that he condemned.

In a meeting at the headquarters of the Cuba Coopération France association (CubaCoop), the deputy also denounced Washington's declared intention to starve an entire people and create suffering for them in order to overthrow the Revolution.

In the largest of the Antilles, we live in a very complex economic situation, based on a network of laws and regulations with more than 60 years of application, he stated in the exchange of criteria, which was attended by mayors and authorities of communes such as Vitry-sur- Seine and Villejuif, in the department of Val-de-Marne, in the Paris Region.

According to González, it is important to emphasize that the US economic, commercial and financial blockade not only attacks Cubans, but also attacks the sovereignty of other countries, and in particular Europe, with its extraterritorial nature.

Companies, banks and citizens of nations that did not adopt the extraterritorial laws of the United States (Torricelli and Helms-Burton) are forced to comply with them, with pressure, threats and sanctions if they seek links with the island, warned the Hero of the Republic.

In his speech, accompanied by the president of CubaCoop, Víctor Fernández, he recalled the inhumane nature of the blockade, evidenced in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic with the prohibitions and obstacles imposed to prevent Cuba from acquiring pulmonary ventilators and medicinal oxygen.

All this pressure on the Antillean nation increased with its inclusion in the unilateral US list of countries sponsoring terrorism, a measure that seeks to isolate it from the international financial system, he said.

González affirmed that, despite such hostility, Cuba has not renounced its social vocation without reversing free access to health and education, nor adopting shock policies; on the contrary, it maintains its decision to move forward.

For his part, the president of CubaCoop insisted on the line of work assumed by the association of combining political solidarity with concrete cooperation in the economic field.

Both highlighted the relevance of the holding on November 16 and 17 at the European Parliament in Brussels of an international court to judge the blockade, with the participation of social, political organizations and jurists from Europe and the United States.

Although the court's ruling, which will be based on testimonies and data on the consequences of the siege, will not be binding, it will represent a tool to denounce and fight against the blockade, they agreed. (Text and photos: PL)
