Sustainability of airport infrastructures guaranteed in Cuba


Havana, February 7.- The remodeling and expansion of capacities of Cuban airport facilities, despite the complex economic situation that the country is going through, has favored the increase in the quality of services to passengers.

In the annual balance of the Cuban Aviation Corporation SA (CACSA), chaired by the Vice Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca and the head of Transportation, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, the actions undertaken in Terminal 3 of the José Martí International Airport, from Havana stood out.

In this facility, a new mat was put into operation in the departure area, increasing baggage management, which doubled the passenger service counters from 24 to 48 (new departure carousel).

In addition, a new building was built for the protection, control and delivery of lost luggage (Lost and Found), the climate capacities in Terminal 3 were increased by 22 tons of refrigeration, and four new elevators were installed: two panoramic and two for disabled people.

In the arrival area, it was specified in the meeting, the flow of passengers was modified, allowing those who use the green channel to increase by 70 percent (without physical baggage control), and for which capital repairs were carried out. the four arrival carousels, installing three state-of-the-art x-ray equipment.

CACSA executives highlighted that a total of 32 X-ray equipment was acquired, as well as climate equipment to be put into operation in 2024.

Also at the José Martí airport, but in Terminal 2, modifications were made to the flows and reforms, which contributed to the expansion of capacities in the arrival area and in the last waiting room, achieving a capacity of 600 passengers per hour.

Among the achievements of 2023, we should mention the inauguration and commissioning of the new control tower at the Frank País international airport in Holguín; the implementation of the Automated System for Air Traffic Control (self-developed); the acquisition and installation of escalators for the international airports Juan Gualberto Gómez, in Matanzas, and Jardines del Rey, in Ciego de Ávila, and the paving process of the runways, which was 80 percent complete.
