National Ballet of Cuba renews classic work Giselle

Havana, March 22.- The National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) presents from today until March 30 its new season of the classic Giselle, with several presentations in the Sala Avellaneda of the National Theater and a renewed staging.

The work, a milestone of romantic dance, returns to the emblematic hall with the most experienced figures of the BNC, accompanied by young dancers who will make their debut, both in the iconic role of the young peasant girl (Chavela Riera), and in the role of Albrecht (Yankiel Vázquez, Ányelo Montero) and the queen of the Willis (Alianed Moreno, Gabriela Druyet).

On Saturday the 23rd, Grettel Morejón will perform as Giselle; Yankiel Vázquez, in her debut in the role of Albrecht. The role of Hilarión will be played by Ernesto Díaz, and the Queen of the Wilis will be played by Alianed Moreno (debut).

Meanwhile, on Sunday the 24th Anette Delgado and Dani Hernández will headline the bill, in the characters of Giselle and Albrecht, and the following week the presentations will take place from Thursday to Saturday.

In the performance of this day on March 22, you can enjoy the presence of the renowned Russian dancer Semyon Chudin, leading figure of the Bolshoi Theater Ballet in Moscow, who will play the role of Albrecht, in addition to Joel Carreño, another standout on our scene, embodying Hilarión, the forest ranger, according to the Cubaescena site.

According to Viengsay Valdés, prima ballerina and director of the BNC, they are special guests who stimulated the preparation of the piece due to the career of both, she said. They contributed experiences from other schools, a stimulus that will offer freshness and provide a “new air.” to the upcoming presentations, added the director of the Cuban company.

Valdés added that it is important to encourage these exchanges outside the context of the International Ballet Festival, due to the contribution provided to the BNC, especially for the youngest, who have the opportunity to take these figures as references to grow artistically.

Chudin expressed the pleasure of coming to dance in Cuba because of the prestigious teachers the company has and the joy it means for him to perform another version of Giselle.

His character of Albrecht when he was young was somewhat haughty, tough, but over time he became softer, dedicated, in love, Cubaescena reflected on its official website when describing the feeling of the Russian dancer.

The company also announced the big gala with the stars. Viengsay Valdés and Ányelo Montero, principal dancer, will perform the pas de deux from Don Quixote and the third pas de deux from Love Fear Loss, with choreography by Ricardo Amarante and piano performance by Marcos Madrigal.

This special performance refers to the classical and contemporary dance show in which some of its greatest international exponents (Fumi Kaneko, Vadim Muntagirov, Elisa Carrillo, Mikhail Kaniskin, Maia Makhateli) will share the stage with outstanding students from prestigious academies in Europe.

The participation on March 24 in this show, at the Teatro Moderno de Grosseto, by Dani Hernández in Les Étoiles, a gala of dance stars, in Rome and an extensive two-month tour of cities in Spain, are part of the purpose of the company for taking the Cuban school to international stages.
