Havana, March 23.- The Cuban Wrestling Federation and the company Cubadeportes SA announced the organization of a training base in the town of Varadero between April 7 and 22.
The initiative aims to bring together the best Cuban figures of the moment, as well as prominent coaches on the Island, together with a group of specialists, including doctors, psychologists and physiotherapists, to complement the work cycle.
With one of the most famous beaches in the world as a setting, the country's best gladiators will carry out intense days of preparation with a view to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, in the case of those already classified.
The fighters, both from Cuba and other latitudes, who are still looking for places for the event under the five rings, specifically through the world qualifier in Istanbul, scheduled for May 9 to 12, will have a very attractive preparatory opportunity in the Matanzas resort.
One of the confirmed delegations is that of Chile, of increasing level in recent years at the continental level.
Although it has not yet been confirmed, Cuba must participate with some figures in the pre-Olympic contest, among the candidates appears the Greco player Daniel Grégorich (87 kg) and the female Laura Herin (53 kg), but it should be specified in the coming days.
This sport has great aspirations for titles and medals ahead of the Paris event, due to the mastery and experience of the classics Mijaín López, Luis Orta and Gabriel Rosillo; the women Yusneylis Guzmán and Milaymis Marín; and the bookseller Alejandro Valdés, among others. (Text and photo: PL)
