Managua, March 27.- The Cuban soccer team won 1-0 against its counterpart from Nicaragua in a friendly match that demonstrated the preparation that the Antilleans have today for upcoming clashes.
From the beginning the game became close for both teams and although sports commentators predicted a victory for the local team, those led by Yunielys Castillo won in the 81st minute of the second half with a goal from Maykel Reyes.
Although the Pinolera team was also close to scoring at several moments in the match, the tactical-defensive principles applied by the Cubans helped to savor the success of the game, celebrated on the occasion of the FIFA date that includes the world calendar of the discipline.
A few hours before the duel, Castillo explained to Prensa Latina that among the objectives of this friendly game was to consolidate the team's preparation for upcoming competitions such as the world qualifiers to be held in June, in addition to evaluating the performance of several reinstated players.
Along these lines, the technical director commented that on June 6 they will play the first match against the Honduras team, and then travel to Havana and face the Cayman Islands, the two matches of the first phase of the World Cup qualifiers.
For the Nicaraguans, last night's clash at the national stadium was the second friendly of the FIFA date, since last Friday they faced Peru, against whom they also lost 2-0 in favor of the South Americans. (Text and photos: PL)
