Friends of Cuba will participate in May Day celebrations

Havana, April 19.- About 627 friends of Cuba, from 31 nations, will join the celebrations that the largest of the Antilles will hold in greeting to May Day, International Workers' Day.

Fernando González Llort, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), pointed out in a press conference that between April 21 and May 5 the International May First Brigade in its 18th edition, will be in the Caribbean country to that its 238 members visit work centers in the capital and exchange with the communities.

The Che Guevara Brigade, from Canada, whose 42 members will celebrate their 30 years of existence on Cuban soil, will also participate.

He highlighted that the May Day brigade members will reach the central province of Cienfuegos, while the Canadian friends will be in Pinar del Río to learn about the socioeconomic reality of the archipelago.

González Llort specified that five socio-political groups will join the celebrations for International Workers' Day, two of them of French origin and the rest from Canada, Germany and the United States.

All the visitors and more than a hundred organizations that have solid ties with Cuba will be at the May Day parade at the José Martí Anti-imperialist Tribune in the capital and will discuss, later, at the Solidarity Meeting, said the ICAP president.

The Hero of the Republic also commented that on May 4 and 5, the VIII International Seminar for Peace and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases will take place, which usually takes place in the province of Guantánamo.

He highlighted that the event will address through presentations the presence of the military bases of the United States government and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in the Caribbean and in the rest of the world, as well as the threat they represent to peace.

The delegates, said González Llort, will visit the town of Caimanera, where the illegal Guantánamo Naval Base is located, and will exchange with its inhabitants.

He stressed that the Group of the Americas of the World Peace Council will hold its annual meeting in Santiago de Cuba, an event that will allow, in addition to the debates, the signing of a collaboration agreement between ICAP and the Simón Bolívar Institute of Venezuela.

The presence of both brigades and other solidarity projects on Cuban soil show support for the Revolution and the people of the largest of the Antilles in the difficult times they are going through, he assured.

Several of the activities planned to honor the working class in their day were organized together with the Cuban Workers' Central. (ACN) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
