Santiago de Chile, April 21.- Dozens of people held a rally in the Plaza de la Victoria, in the Chilean city of Valparaíso, where they expressed their solidarity with the people of Cuba and Palestine, victims today of blockades and imperialist aggression.

Carrying flags and banners, the protesters demanded the end of the economic, commercial and financial siege imposed for more than six decades by the United States against the Caribbean nation and which constitutes the main obstacle to its development.

Only between March 1, 2022 and February 28, 2023, this unilateral measure caused damages estimated at four thousand 867 million dollars, which represents an impact of more than 405 million dollars per month.

Alicia Zúñiga, councilor of the municipality of Valparaíso for the Communist Party of Chile, demanded that the resolutions of the United Nations Organization be applied once and for all, where every year almost all countries demand the lifting of the blockade on Cuba.

It is important, said the official, to request full compliance with the principle of total self-determination of peoples, so that they can develop and live in peace.

The Chileans gathered in Victory Square also demanded an end to Israel's criminal attacks against the defenseless Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip, where the devastation is of enormous proportions.

Zúñiga expressed public denunciation of what is happening in the Middle East, where children, women and the elderly suffer the worst consequences of the genocide practiced by Tel Aviv.

According to the most recent reports, 33,634 people have already died, including 13,000 minors and 8,400 women. There are more than 8,000 missing and about 76,000 injured, many of them without medical assistance due to the destruction of the hospitals.

At least 1.7 million Gazans are displaced and living on the brink of an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.

The Valparaíso councilor expressed her concern because Tel Aviv's militaristic attitude, with the support of the United States and other Western powers, is bringing the world to the brink of a global war with serious consequences.

During the rally, attendees demanded that the Chilean government immediately break diplomatic and all kinds of relations with Israel.

The event was called by the Valparaíso zone V of the Solidarity with Cuba Coordinator and representatives from other organizations and residents of the city joined. (Text and photo: PL)
