Varadero, 14 Sep.- The III Crossing of Open Waters Gran Reto Cuba 2024 was officially inaugurated in the spa of Varadero with a sports-recreation festival that shook the peninsula of Hicacos.
After an emotional parade with the participation of all competitors in the main arteries of the city, with departure at the Los Delfines hotel and arrival in the Boulevard, the opening ceremony began with the presence of sports leaders and the government of the province of Matanzas.
More than 400 swimmers representing eight countries gathered on stage chosen to formalize the event, sponsored by the Mexican company Gran Reto, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary.
Varadero welcomes all the athletes who struggle to improve their quality of life through the sport, said the presenter of the activity, before Luis Mario Villarreal, CEO of Gran Reto, will pronounce the words that left the event inaugurated.
I ask for applause for all who make it possible to hold this sporting party. I am very proud that you can develop the Third Crossing once again in the famous spa, the manager said.
In the cultural activity there was no lack of the typical music of some of the participating countries, especially from Mexico, a country that most represented, which closed on high a day where many emotions came, new friendships were made and competitive goals were set.
The great maritime adventure is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism of Cuba, Cubadeportes and the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder) and with the receptive of the agencies Havanatur S.A. and Taino Tours.
On this previous day the packages were delivered to the athletes, which include the time chip, the tattoos with the participation numbers, the personal security buoys and the swimming caps with the respective color of each category.
Today the actions will start with the tests at the distances of 750, 1,500 and three thousand meters and on Sunday the five and 10 kilometers, considered elite, are planned.
Other activities such as the beer mile, domino games and relay racing are planned this weekend in the pool of the Los Delfines hotel, home to the event. (Text and photo: PL)
