Ballet of Camagüey returns to Sancti Spiritus’s Theater

Sancti Spíritus, Sep 19.- With a diverse program that ranges from neoclassical and classical to more contemporary productions, the Ballet of Camagüey will offer several presentations from today at the Teatro Principal in this city, an opportunity that serves, in turn, to enhance the approach with the students of the Ernesto Lecuona Elementary School of Art.

After several years of its last show in a land that Regina Balaguer herself, general director of the company, described as beautiful and to which it always returns due to the reception of the public, the group proposes until the 21st pieces such as Impromptu, by the maitre Lila Martínez, and others more applauded on international scenes such as the pas de deux of Llama de París or La muerte del hombre.

The works belong to choreographers who are in the ballet or who have been part of it at some point, the teacher explained, but there is also a mix of experienced dancers with young people who have been with us for a short time.

It is going to be a very interesting experience, said the deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power who, as part of her visit to Sancti Spíritus, will donate a guayabera dress to the collection that is preserved in the house museum located on the banks of the Yayabo River.

When referring to the link with art schools, Balaguer insisted on the importance of all creators and dance projects establishing a permanent relationship with these institutions and that the teachers of the groups become teachers of the new generations.

If these centers do not function well, the future life of the companies is in danger, highlighted the famous director who stressed that at a certain moment in ballet there were many references and, even though there are currently very important figures, those paradigms have already left to exist physically, which requires strengthening these links.

He clarified that the current situation is complex and that, sometimes, it is impossible to make all the presentations or have resources; However, he expressed the importance of maintaining or expanding, for example, seminars, promotion centers like the one in Camagüey because, as he said, the dance school - and ballet - is one, with one well defined methodological line.

Balaguer pointed out that this does not mean that, in the face of the phenomenon of globalization, the Island is left behind in new trends, but explained that what is going to be included must be based on solid criteria and with elements that manage to magnify it.

Cuba is a cultural country, dancers and teachers of the Caribbean nation share their knowledge and styles in the most diverse parts of the world and this is the place in Latin America with a school of the manifestation recognized worldwide and highly coveted, she stated. (ACN) (Photo: Archive)
