Accountability under war economy

With its back turned to the very complex and harsh scenario of war economy that the country faces today is not the current process of accountability of the delegates of the People’s Power to their voters, which has just begun and will take place throughout Cuba until November 20.

As Homero Acosta, secretary of the National Assembly of People's Power, has explained, it actively involves mass organizations, local administrations, managers and the population, and through it the voters know, evaluate and comment on the management and work of their representatives during a given period.

But, first of all, it must be ensured that the majority of residents attend such important neighborhood meetings, as it is a space in which they can channel their concerns, complaints and suggestions about those pressing issues that impact the daily lives of residents.

Last July, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel before the National Assembly of People's Power, stated that the very complex situation in the country is verified today in practically all areas of the economy.

The report that Cuba will present in October before the United Nations General Assembly, regarding how much damage the criminal US blockade causes to the people and the country minute by minute, is just an approach to the harsh reality that we live, without forgetting the impact of the international economic crisis and the many developing conflicts.

A few days ago in Havana, during a workshop organized by the World Economy Research Center, one of its experts, Doctor in Economic Sciences José Luis Rodríguez, warned about the adverse, complex and acute challenges facing the Cuban economy, because of objective and... also subjective problems.

Of the latter, which do not always require material and financial resources but rather the will to take care and worry about making the lives of our people more bearable, to demand that each institution or organization fulfill its obligations, to rescue those lost values, to see how from the neighborhood we all help to resolve a group of issues, should be discussed in the accountability assemblies of the delegates of People's Power.

Managing to motivate voters, engaging them in essential tasks such as popular control and denouncing illegalities, distortions or violations of what is established, reminding them of the media campaign and destabilization attempts underway by the enemies of the Revolution, are one of the things that we must encourage during the important political and citizen participation process.

Without a doubt, this issue should also be present in the meetings of our delegates with the voters, that is, how from the neighborhood, the community factors, the school, the health institutions, the heads of sectors, the Popular Council, the social workers and the neighbors, together, can fight that battle.

Even before those who, despite the current distortions and the high and abusive prices, defend Mipymes, as they are the ones that in many places have guaranteed food shortages, it will be necessary to remind them that the confrontation is against lack of control, illegalities, tax evasion, speculation and fraud, wherever they come from, whether non-state or state-owned companies.

Save and promote that unity that until today has become the main strength and armor of the Revolution, sow awareness and hope, demonstrate that it can be done because there are many good examples or practices of how much labor groups and people contribute to the well-being of the country, in short, not getting discouraged or stopping fighting as Fidel taught us, are challenges for today and tomorrow.

Our delegates and above all the voters have the floor with their leadership to emancipate ourselves from the neighborhood by ourselves and with our own efforts, just as Fidel requested in his masterful concept of Revolution. (Text and photo: Digital Workers)
