History of Puerto Príncipe, an Essential Book for Understanding Camagüey

Camagüey, Jan 2.- Located in the Heritage Interpretation Center, the store of El Lugareño Publishing House offers a variety of literary proposals, including an edition of the book *History of Puerto Príncipe* by Tomás Pio Betancourt.

This text brings together geographical characteristics of the Camagüey region, as well as important data and events that set the tone for the development of the city.

According to Camagüey's historian Bárbara Oliva García, who wrote the prologue for this edition, the work incorporates cultural traits that identify the territory and are significant in the formation of both regional and national idiosyncrasy.

Tomás Pio Betancourt, although of empirical training, is considered the first historian of Camagüey, in addition to standing out for his contributions to the development of the city.

His historical work also served as a basis for research and data collection of personalities who followed him in his work, and for contemporary scholars it is an essential source of information.

As part of the Esencias Collection, by Ediciones El Lugareño, several texts of great value for the study of Camagüey's history are grouped together in the store located in the building of the model of the city. (Daylén Fenollar Alemán/Radio Camagüey) (Photo: Radio Camagüey)
