January: little rain lots of cold

Havana, Jan 6.- The first month of this year is the third of the dry period in Cuba and the impact of cold fronts is greater compared to its predecessors, which frequently influences the establishment of winter conditions.

It is also one of those that generates the least amount of precipitation, which fundamentally depends on the frontal systems that reach the country, report professionals from the Climate Center, of the Institute of Meteorology, in their traditional specialized bulletin.

They point out that sea surface temperature anomalies are currently observed, typical of neutral conditions over the central and eastern regions of the equatorial Pacific Ocean, where such conditions should remain during the first half of the year.

They indicate that the sea surface temperature remains very high in the tropical region of the Atlantic Ocean and from June 2023 to June 2024 the highest values ??were recorded since 1951.

However, they continue, during last August, September, October and November very warm weather occurred, among the three highest on record, over which they maintain constant surveillance.

According to their estimates, rainfall in January should be 32 millimeters in the western region, 26 in the central region and 39 in the eastern region, while maximum temperatures of 26.6-27.5 degrees Celsius, 27, 0-28.0 and 28.5-29.2, respectively.

In general, the latter decrease appreciably, compared to November and December, mainly in the second half, although during the month cold continental air masses usually predominate and similar days occur, when cool and warm periods alternate, which characterizes January as the coldest month of the year in Cuba.

However, in recent years, both maximum and minimum temperatures were in most cases close to or above normal. (ACN) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
