Moscow, February 10. - The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Monday that his plan to reconstruct the Gaza Strip rules out the Palestinians returning there, as well as reiterating his desire for his country to possess the enclave.
"We will build beautiful communities for the 1.9 million inhabitants. We will build beautiful communities, safe communities," the president said in an interview with Fox News. "In the meantime, I would be the owner of this, I think of it as a real estate development for the future," he added.
When asked if the Palestinians have a right to return, Trump said: "No, they would not have it because they will have much better housing, much better." "In other words, I am talking about building a permanent place for them, because if they have to return now it will be years before it can happen. It is not habitable," he explained.
In early February, Trump suggested the possibility of his country taking over the enclave, moving its population to other countries and rebuilding the devastated territory once it is under Washington's control.
The Republican's initiative has been criticized by Russia and China, as well as by several Latin American and Middle Eastern countries, which point to the two-state solution as the only possibility to end the conflict. (Text and photo: RT)
