Havana, February 14.- The children's theater group La Colmenita de Cuba these days radiates the same charm among boys, girls and adults as in its founding times, 35 years ago today.
Returning to their performances, like last Sunday at the Havana Amphitheater, is returning to childhood with the help of children and grandchildren, because more than one generation of Cubans grew up with their shows, dances and songs.
Whether in this capital, where its headquarters is located, or in several provinces of the country, where other hives have emerged over the years, the magic of the group spreads joy and hope to all those who attend their shows.
In addition to giving away their art on national tours or in presentations they make in areas of the country affected by frequent weather events on the island, La Colmenita has infected thousands of children in different nations of the world.
The spell of Carlos Alberto (Tin) Cremata's troop captures grandchildren, children, parents, music and sports stars, as well as ambassadors and presidents who have been part of its public and fan base for years.
No matter what the show is, La Cucarachita Martina, Cinderella according to the Beatles, Ajiaco de sueños, Ricitos de Oro or another… the charm is repeated, the smile appears and the euphoria is unleashed among the spectators, the same with the chords of Pícaro pilluelo as with songs by the troubadour Silvio Rodríguez, the salsa by Los Van Van or the Bacalao con pan by Irakeres.
The group brings out the best in people, not just its members; while the children perform, problems and frustrations disappear among the audience; this has happened over the years and with several generations of “colmeneros”.
This February 14, Valentine's Day, La Colmenita celebrates 35 years with the joy of making millions of Cubans happy and there is no better gift than that. (Text and Photos: PL)
