Riyadh, February 18. - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov described the talks between Moscow and Washington that took place today in the Saudi city of Riyadh as useful.
The Russian Foreign Minister, who spoke to the press at the end of the dialogue, thanked the government of Saudi Arabia for the opportunity to organize high-level consultations between his country and the United States, and noted that Washington has now begun to better understand Moscow's position.
According to the head of Russian diplomacy, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, at the beginning of today's dialogue stressed the fundamental importance of each country being guided by its national interests.
We fully agreed on this. We also agreed that these national interests, of course, will not always coincide, but when they do not coincide, it is of utmost importance to deal with these discrepancies, not to let them go to waste, and above all, not to provoke military or other confrontations, he stated.
According to the minister, when national interests coincide, it is necessary to do everything possible to unite efforts in these areas and to launch mutually beneficial projects in the geopolitical and economic spheres.
Lavrov also said that both countries agreed in the negotiations in Riyadh to create the conditions for cooperation between Moscow and Washington to be fully resumed.

High-level negotiations between the Russian and US delegations were held on Tuesday in Riyadh to seek the normalization of relations between the two great powers, to arrange the first summit between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, and to facilitate possible negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
The Russian delegation was made up of Foreign Minister Lavrov, Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov, General Director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kiril Dmitriev.
On the US side, the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, the national security advisor, Mike Waltz, and the special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, participated in the meeting.
