Camagüey, March 12. - The 33rd edition of the International Book Fair will begin this March 13 and will run until Sunday the 16th at its usual venue at the local Casino Campestre.
On this occasion, the event has the Republic of South Africa as the guest of honor, and is dedicated to the writers Francisca López Civeira, Virgilio López Lemus, Benito Estrada Fernández and Armando Pérez Padrón, the latter two prominent intellectuals from Camagüey.
The fair will feature the participation of renowned publishing houses in the country, such as Camino and La Luz, other institutions dedicated to the commercialization of books and the local ones El Lugareño and Ácana.
The latter, also framed in the celebration of its 35 years of founding, comes with the Reader's Prize, awarded during the capital edition for the text The Luminous Clay, which will also be among its proposals in Camagüey; Ácana will present 16 of its own titles, for a variety of audiences, and, and as a novelty three pocket editions.
The opening of the literature festival in the City of Tinajones (extra-large earthenware jars) will have as its main attraction the show Raíces, which will bring to the region the artistic traditions of the invited nation, along with the manifestations of the African heritage in the culture of Cuba.
The Book Fair will include the theoretical and the collateral programs, activities at the headquarters here of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba and the House of Poetry; the Terraza Campesina (Country Terrace), the Carpa de la Reina (Queen Tent) of the Hermanos Saíz Association; and the Children's Pavilion.
As one of the most anticipated proposals, the space for children will feature the participation of the projects Carsueños and Cartón Creativo (the writer Niurki Pérez will participate in the activities) and the little ones will also be able to enjoy the talent of the students from the Camagüey art schools.
From March 13 to 16, the Book Fair in Camagüey will bring together guests from several provinces in the city. In the 33rd edition, not exempt from the difficulties faced by the entire country, the Provincial Book and Literature Center guarantees more than a hundred titles and a number of more than 40,000 physical copies, for the pleasure of the reading public.
