Cuban foreign affairs minister arrived in Nigeria, fourth stop on tour of Africa


Abuja, Mar 16th. - Cuba's Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla arrived in Nigeria on an official visit, fourth stop on a working tour of Africa, with the aim of strengthening historical ties and bilateral cooperation.

Upon his arrival, Rodriguez Parrilla and the accompanying delegation were received by the protocol director of the local Foreign Ministry, Wahab Adekola Akande, and the ambassador of Havana to Abuja, Miriam Morales Palmero.

During his stay, the Caribbean Foreign Minister will hold an intense agenda of official meetings with leaders of the country, representatives of the Cuban community living in the African country, graduates of the Caribbean island and members of the solidarity movement, the Havana Embassy in Abuja reported.

This visit is part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Nigeria, held on 1 July 2024.

During these five decades, both countries have developed close cooperation in various areas, with emphasis on education, health and human resources training.

The presence of hundreds of Nigerian students at Cuban universities and collaboration in strategic sectors reflect the mutual commitment to continue strengthening these ties, the source stressed.

Cuba and Nigeria share deep historical and cultural ties, based on a common heritage and a shared vision of promoting sustainable development, South-South cooperation and solidarity among peoples.

In this regard, the visit of the Cuban Foreign Minister reaffirms the will of both nations to continue to expand their bilateral relations and explore new opportunities for cooperation.

The journey through Africa reinforces the Caribbean island's commitment to the region and its interest in further strengthening relations with the countries of the continent. (Text and Photo: PL)
