Cuba's strengths in primary health care are recognized

Havana, April 19. - Cuba has great strength in primary health care, of great prestige worldwide, which is why it is essential to come to this country and acquire experiences to implement this model in my nation, recognized Michael Deville, Minister of Health of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

After arriving in this capital to attend the V International Health Convention (Cuba Salud 2025), to be held from April 21 to 25 at the Convention Palace and the Pabexpo fairgrounds, Deville declared exclusively to the Cuban News Agency that Cuban medical collaboration has served for more than 20 years in difficult-to-access areas of the Bahamas, as that nation presents difficulties with health coverage in the communities.

He highlighted the invaluable contribution of Cuban professionals during the disasters caused by the powerful Hurricane Dorian in September 2019 and in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, who, through solidarity, safeguarded many lives and achieved positive health indicators in the population.

The minister reported that human resources are being trained in Cuba, as 15 Bahamians are training in subjects on the integrated health care model that the largest of the Antilles practices in the communities, in order to apply this knowledge in the Bahamas.

He emphasized that this is the second time he is attending the Cuba Salud Convention and its associated fairs, and on this occasion he will participate in a panel on universal health coverage, to exchange experiences and gain knowledge about access to healthcare in the communities.

This great event will also serve to expand cooperation in the field of healthcare, teaching and science between both nations, he added.

He reaffirmed the political will of the Bahamas government to maintain medical collaboration with Cuba in the healthcare field, the training of doctors and specialists, and the recognition of the professional quality of Cuban healthcare workers for their humanistic vocation.

Cooperation between the Bahamas and Cuba began more than 20 years ago, with the presence of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, computer technicians, and electromedical technicians.

Cuba Salud 2025 aims to promote science, innovation, and intersectoral collaboration as fundamental pillars to face current challenges in the health field. (ACN) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
