Conflict between India and Pakistan could trigger nuclear war, experts warn

Moscow, April 29. - A war between India and Pakistan would break out in the next three or four days, according to the Pakistani Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, in statements to a private television channel.

However, he later said his words had been distorted and that he only wanted to emphasize that, in the event of an armed conflict, his country would have the capacity to respond at any time, according to local media reports.

"We have reinforced our forces because it is something imminent. Therefore, in this situation, it is necessary to make some strategic decisions, and this has been done," Asif declared in dialogue with the Reuters agency.

With both countries being nuclear powers, the bilateral conflict has raised fears that a large-scale war involving this type of weapons will develop. For now, the two nations have deployed their armies across the border and gunfire has been reported along it.

Asif also stated that they would use their nuclear weapons only if there is a direct threat to our existence, although he later indicated that if India imposes war, there will be a response that history will remember.

Tensions have escalated in recent days following the terrorist attack that left 26 dead last week in the Indian-administered part of Kashmir, a region disputed with Pakistan since independence from the United Kingdom in 1947, in which Pakistani militants were allegedly involved. For its part, Islamabad has denied any involvement in the incident and called for a neutral investigation. (Text and photo: RT)
