Havana, June 3 – Lidia Esther Hidalgo, Commercial Vice President of the Cuban Telecommunications Company S.A. (Etecsa, for its acronym in Spanish), confirmed today that the island's home Internet access service will be modified.
During the summer we will announce a new modality, which will be optional, advanced in the program of the Cuban television Mesa Redonda, in which were treated the changes of offers for prepaid services of the company.
She referred to the Nauta Hogar service, a home connectivity option using ADSL technology that facilitates simultaneous Internet access and telephone use.
Access plans vary depending on the number of hours contracted for this service, one of which Etecsa wants to support and improve, based on the recently adopted unpopular changes to national recharge and the offers of plans and packages for mobile devices.
Our customer base tells us that not everyone has the same conditions: some use up their available hours, others do not. We are going to put on an offer that we think is quite interesting, said Hidalgo.
Without revealing details, she assured that the client "will be able to choose which option is more attractive and, above all, those who cannot consume their hours, will have the possibility of continuing to accumulate them".
"We're practically ready to make the announcement regarding these changes this summer," she reiterated.
Measures to facilitate internet access for university students were also announced during the program, including the possibility of purchasing two data plans, with which they could access up to 12 gigabytes per month, for a cost of 720 pesos (national currency).
Also, the upcoming implementation of an extra data plan, less than three thousand 360 pesos, and, from this Monday, the extension to 35 days of the validity of the plans, which can be accumulated.
Also appearing at the Mesa Redonda were the president of Etecsa, Tania Velázquez; Interim Minister of Communications, Ernesto Rodríguez; and President of the University Student Federation, Ricardo Rodríguez. (Text and photo: PL)
