Radio Cadena Agramonte: 68 years at the service of Cuban radio

Camagüey, Jun 9th. - With a radio tradition dating back to 1924, this province of Cuba treasures today one of Cuba's most emblematic stations: Radio Cadena Agramonte.

The key institution in cultural and journalistic dissemination, located in the heart of a World Heritage Historic Center, is celebrating its 68th anniversary date.

The origins of broadcasting in Camaguey are linked to the pioneering CMJA, heir to the historic 7AZ, who in 1924 marked a milestone by broadcasting from the Plaza Hotel, outside Havana. That signal laid the foundations for a radio system that expanded with stations such as La Voz del Tinajón and Radio Camagüey.

In the 1950s, the local radio spectrum was enriched with new plants in Morón, Ciego de Ávila and Nuevitas. However, it was June 9, 1957 that Radio Cadena Agramonte emerged, revolutionizing the medium with culturally diverse programming and close to popular interests.

Its first test broadcasts were carried out on May 19 of that year, while his repeater in Ciego de Ávila began operations hours later. Since then, the broadcaster has maintained an indissoluble link with its audience.

Today, a multidisciplinary collective works tirelessly to offer informative, musical and dramatized content that reflect the Camagüey identity. Its programming ranges from children's spaces to coverage of national events.

The station stands out for its presence at crucial moments: festivals such as San Juan Camagüeyano, patriotic parades and weather emergencies. Its reporters have witnessed hurricanes and floods, providing vital information in real time.

Radiated in a city declared a World Heritage Site, Radio Cadena Agramonte not only informs, but also educates. Its work in the training of young communicators reinforces its commitment to the future of Cuban radio.

With 67 years of history, the plant maintains its essence: telling the truth, promoting culture and serving as a bridge between the most relevant people and events in Cuba and the world.

Its legacy endures as a symbol of endurance and creativity. (Text and photo: PL)
