Havana, June 19th. - The Russian government reiterated that it will maintain firm its commitment to Cuba's food and nutritional security, during the protocol of handing over a vitamin plant oil donation to the Antillean country.
Victor V. Koronelli, the Russian ambassador to this capital, confirmed his nation's position, which in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP) donated nearly 470 metric tons of the products, which will be delivered to vulnerable citizens.
We will continue to provide support to Sister Cuba, both through international organizations and in the bilateral format, Koronelli said at the ceremony held in a capitalized distribution center of the Ministry of Internal Trade.
In addition, he recalled that last year they donated to Cuba medicines, rescue mobiles, first aid sanitary bags, filters to purify water, sunflower oil and chick peas, among other products.
The ambassador described the donation as modest, although he indicated that it will be palpable due to the current conditions of the country, due to the resurgence of the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States government against the island.
He also said that the aid comes from the Ministry for Civil Protection, Emergencies and Elimination of the Disaster Consequences of Russia and reported that they will soon donate two more consignments of vegetable oil.
WFP resident representative Etienne Labande considered that contribution from Russia and its efforts to implement projects in Cuba valuable.
For his part, the Director-General for Collaboration of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, William Díaz, thanked on behalf of Cuba for the support of Russia and WFP for government efforts to ensure food sovereignty. (Text and photo: PL)
