Increased rainfall and high summer temperatures create a favorable environment for the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, responsible for transmitting diseases such as dengue and Zika. These climatic conditions contribute to the accumulation of water in containers and urban areas, encouraging the reproduction of these insects.
In response to this situation, the Action Campaign against mosquito has been launched in Cuba, a coordinated effort involving different health promotion centers throughout the country.
The main objective is to educate the population about the preventive measures necessary to prevent the formation of breeding sites and eliminate those that may exist in homes, communities and public spaces. Awareness raising and active participation are key to reducing the mosquito’s presence.
In Camagüey, the actions of this campaign have materialized with a series of initiatives that seek to directly benefit the population. Clean-up days in neighbourhoods, health education workshops and awareness actions in local media are being held.
These activities are designed to strengthen citizen awareness and promote individual responsibility in eliminating breeding sites, thus contributing to a safer and healthier environment.
The collaboration between health authorities, social organizations, and residents themselves has made it possible to quickly identify and eliminate places where the mosquito can reproduce, promoting a culture of prevention that can be maintained in the long term.
This season’s weather conditions urge us to act with energy and unity to stop the spread of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. In the 13 municipalities of Camagüey, the campaign has become a symbol of how determined action and community participation can improve the fight against diseases and strengthen everyone's health.
