Florida, Camagüey, August 1.- Coordinators, promoters, and facilitators from various organizations in the municipality of Florida, linked to the "Mi Costa" environmental rehabilitation project, conducted a training session for delegates of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power and directors of socioeconomic and productive entities in the territory.
Prior to the start of the twenty-second ordinary session of the highest body of local government, members of the group spoke about the objective of the intervention being carried out in the mangrove ecosystem of Playa Florida, the progress of the tasks promoted to date, and the importance of joining forces to protect the coastal area of the territory.
Headed by MSc Isabel Cristina Márquez Ulloa, Policy Specialist from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment in the Council of the Administration of the municipality, representatives of the local University Center also referred to the need to increase the planting of trees that promote the recovery of the green mass and the awareness of people in safeguarding natural environments such as mangroves, which are in danger of disappearing due to climate change and human aggression.
The "Mi Costa" (My Coast) Project, present in 14 locations in the country, including Playa Florida, seeks to strengthen coastal resilience to climate change through the ecosystem-based adaptation approach, with the restoration of the nexus and functionalities of ecosystems, and the strengthening of the adaptive capacities of local communities, key sectors, and national planning frameworks.
